So, 2.0 has been released to the general public (ie, those with Alpha/Beta packages), and included is the mini Universe with a handful of systems. It'll give you a better feel for what the game is going to be.

Even if the only ship package you have isn't flyable yet, they give you a ship you can use.
In my case, I can fly my Hornet Ghost, but instead of a Freelancer they gave me a Connie. Freelancer is due to be patched in soon™.

I didnt know about half of these cast,.. and I was impressed already.

Yea,.. for a game going down the tubes, they must be paying all these actors in favours, Im guessing.... 8) Sure. Thats how the world works.

Good teaser and interesting int'v.

Now, all we need is proof of a real and complete game!

So it has been over a month since this bullshit story. CIG is still on the path to success for Star Citizen and Squadron 42. There is lots of info out there about how none of the information in the Escapist story was true except the part about me having a werewolf baby, and Elvis being spotted with Hitler in Argentina. Thanks for not jumping on the bandwagon. It seems that the Escapist knew anything about journalism. Who would have guessed.

P.S. Still making money- at 94 million now. See you in the verse.

Ouch.

I was one of the original backers waaayyy back when the kickstart happened. I have the bounty hunter package but nothing else.

I can live with delays and stupid expectations, bu the part that scared me the most in the article (if true) is that they burned through 82 million dollars on a flight demo, a race track and an fps demo.

THAT's the part that worries me and makes me feel all the more terrible for those who went "all in" with extra ships, hangars & whatnot. Because losing 60$ is like a night at the bar, no biggie. But if someone's in for 1k, that's class action territory IMO if this all falls apart.

If this game doesn't make it to retail, I can imagine the government will get involved somehow to limit these kind outrageous kicker starter campaigns, to at least hold the founders accountable in some way. Kickstarter and other similar platforms will definitely see some sort of regulations out of all this.

There is going to be a lot of pissed off people if this game shits it's pants..
It would be one of the biggest scams of this decade if this article is true, and I bet will some day be made into a Hollywood movie! Or at least a documentary.

Either way, this is terrible publicity, and I am certain that plenty of the solid backers of this game will not be so inclined to do so in the future. Though, it would appear the damage has already been done..

My post from two years back.. Just wanted to throw this out there, I told you so!
Sosowac wrote:I agree with Destro.. the game does look interesting, but it seems there is no accountability for these companies to complete the games, yea it would basically mean their reputation would go in the shitter, but what protects people that invest in these games that are hosted on kickstarter?? I mean shit, say the game flops or doesn't get completed, they might have a team of 10 people, divide up the cash (a cool million each) and walk away. And really all you get in the end (in two years) is a game that has already been done before, these developers have raised millions of dollars and the investors get no return on what they've put in.. just another clever way to market entertainment.

Really, how dumb can we as consumers get, "yes we haven't released a game in 10 years, but if you give us your money we will make the greatest game in the universe (maybe)." It's like paying for a movie that doesn't exist yet and you won't get to watch until 2015. Just silly.
